Welcome

Welcome to JMWartist. Here you will find my love of fine art, pet portraits and everything in between!

Artwork has many styles but following a 30 year absence, I didn’t know my style anymore because I was a different person. My style needed to emerge naturally, over time, to be in harmony with who I was now. I needed to explore.

I returned to art because of lockdown and redundancy. Encouraged by my partner, art became a rekindled passion. Initially, there were skills I wanted to revisit. Some, such as acrylic painting, I wanted to learn.

All the steps are documented in my blog.

There are many professional artist websites, but none which show how they got to where they are. For anyone creating art in later life, it can be quite intimidating. Therefore, I wanted to record my journey, share tips and be available to those brave enough to have a go.

Pick Up Your Brushes

You may be a little nervous of where to start. Or, you may feel it’s too late to start something new – it isn’t.

In truth, with little budget and no road-map, for me it was trial and error. And how enjoyable it was – and is!

Each mentor I selected along the way I’ve included in the blog. Moreover, all the links are there for you to follow.

Many of the resources I guide you to are free, such as art tutorials on YouTube.

I simply set out to create art for pleasure. In every case, I learned something new.

The best thing? I didn’t have to tick a box or please someone else. Every canvas was a possibility, every blank piece of paper a personal adventure.

Hopefully, you can share my progression and maybe pick up your brushes/pencils/pastels too?

A Quiet Corner

Welcome to my quiet corner of the internet. My gallery of artwork as it grows and my journey – warts and all!

Here are my successes and my failures, the ones that made me throw my brushes on the floor and the ones that made me happy. Specifically, I hope to encourage new and emerging artists not to give up. Create for the sheer joy of it. If it goes wrong it doesn’t matter! Even better, if it goes well, it will open up a whole new world for you like it has for me. Come in, take a look around and feel free to come again whenever you like.

Finally, by taking this no-pressure approach I now sell my creations, so have a good read and find out how.
